South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on Wednesday that Chinese e-commerce titan JD.com has established a business entity in South Korea to directly source Korean consumer products for sale in the Chinese market.
According to a press release from the ministry, it, along with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and JD.com, co-hosted a briefing session for approximately 200 Korean consumer goods companies to introduce JD.com's business model.
The ministry stated that during one-on-one business matching sessions held alongside the briefing, multiple Korean firms signed cooperation agreements with a total contract value of 1.5 million US dollars. These agreements will facilitate product exports through JD.com's B2C platform in the Chinese market.
The ministry further indicated that the South Korean government will provide comprehensive support for local companies seeking to expand into the Chinese market via leading e-commerce platforms like JD.com.
South Korea's consumer goods exports to China reached a record high of 9.3 billion US dollars in 2021, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, export volumes fell to 6.5 billion US dollars in 2025. However, in the first half of 2026, South Korea's consumer goods exports to China grew by 8.7% year-on-year, reaching 3.4 billion US dollars.
