In a heartfelt move to strengthen human connection and serve faculty with genuine care, Youji Tun No. 2 Middle School in Sui County has transformed unused campus land into a "caring vegetable garden." This long-standing initiative addresses daily living challenges for teachers who reside on campus away from home, significantly boosting their sense of belonging and happiness while enhancing the school's collective educational spirit.
Many teachers at Youji Tun No. 2 Middle School live on campus year-round due to long distances from their hometowns, making grocery shopping a persistent struggle. To tackle this, the school repurposed idle campus space into an organic garden. During spring afternoons, educators use their free time to till soil, level beds, sow seeds, and water crops, planting seasonal vegetables like cucumbers, peppers, and greens. They embrace the role of gardeners, relieving teaching stress through hands-on labor and savoring the joys of cultivation.
With daily, dedicated care, by midsummer, the campus garden thrives with abundant, robust yields, and a steady harvest of fresh vegetables begins. The self-grown produce is green, healthy, and free from pesticides, solving the daily food supply issues for resident teachers. It allows educators to access fresh ingredients without leaving campus, greatly easing their everyday lives.
"We will continue to refine our support for faculty, using warm, thoughtful measures to reinforce our dedication to education. This enables teachers to teach with peace of mind, focus on nurturing students, and drive high-quality development in our school's teaching and learning," said a school official at Youji Tun No. 2 Middle School.
