On July 3rd, a significant yield evaluation took place in Xinshi Community, Yuquan Street, Meitan County, Zunyi City.
A team of experts, including senior agronomists from the Zunyi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, conducted on-site yield measurements for over 300 mu of the Zunnuo 222 fresh-eating corn variety.
Following scientific sampling and standardized calculations, the measured yield reached 2,844.69 jin per mu, with individual ears typically weighing around 0.8 jin including the husk.
In the contiguous cornfields, the expert group meticulously measured row spacing, plant spacing, ear length, and ear thickness.
They systematically tallied the effective ear count and the proportion of high-quality ears, conducting a comprehensive assessment of growth and commercial quality.
The lead agronomist announced the results, stating the data was accurate and that the yield represented a significant increase over conventional varieties, with outstanding commercial traits, marking a stage of successful demonstration for Zunnuo 222 in Meitan County.
Li Yongguo, a 52-year-old local large-scale grower, expressed his joy at the results.
He noted that the corn planted in March is now ready for harvest, and the process is faster than before.
He mentioned that previous yields of ordinary waxy corn were only around 1,700 jin per mu, and he had just shipped 12 tons of fresh ears to markets in Chengdu and Chongqing, where they received positive feedback from taste tests.
The jump from 1,700 to nearly 3,000 jin per mu reflects a deep integration of technology and agriculture.
An official from the Meitan County agriculture bureau explained that Zunnuo 222 is a high-quality fresh corn variety highly recommended by the Zunyi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, known for its strong disease resistance, good taste, and high commercial ear rate.
During its promotion, agricultural technicians provided full-process guidance from planting density and water-fertilizer management to green pest control, ensuring that superior seeds are matched with superior cultivation methods for gains in both yield and quality.
