Stock Track | Halliburton Plummets 6.74% Intraday as Middle East Revenue Drop Overshadows Q2 Earnings Beat

Halliburton's stock plunged 6.74% during Tuesday's intraday trading session following the release of its second-quarter financial results. The oilfield services giant reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.55, narrowly beating the Wall Street consensus estimate of $0.54, while revenue of $5.71 billion also exceeded expectations.

Despite the top- and bottom-line beats, investor focus shifted sharply to a significant 10-11% year-over-year decline in Middle East and Asia revenue, which fell to $1.3 billion. This drop was primarily driven by reduced business activity in Kuwait, Iraq, and Qatar due to the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, which has disrupted operations in the region. The geopolitical headwinds in this key market overshadowed the company's earnings outperformance and growth in other international regions like Latin America.

The market reaction reflects concerns that Middle East instability could continue to pressure Halliburton's operations, even as the company sees recovery in North American drilling activity. The substantial intraday sell-off indicates that investors weighed the near-term geopolitical risks as more significant than the marginal earnings beat and positive trends in other business segments.
