Guangxi's ASEAN Trade Shows Strength in First Five Months with Rising AI Product Imports

Data recently released by customs authorities in Nanning shows that from January to May this year, Guangxi's total import and export value reached 347.7 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.2%.

The region's trade performance is characterized by accelerated growth with ASEAN, deepening cooperation with emerging markets, and a rapid surge in imports of artificial intelligence-related products.

As Guangxi deepens its integration into the Belt and Road Initiative, its trade with ASEAN has continued to gain momentum.

In the first five months of the year, Guangxi's import and export value with ASEAN amounted to 175.5 billion yuan, an increase of 1.1%.

Trade with Latin American markets reached 59.43 billion yuan, soaring by 38.7%, with the cumulative growth rate maintaining a rapid pace of over 30% for six consecutive months.

On the export front, Guangxi's shipments of high-tech products totaled 51.24 billion yuan, up 17.3% year-on-year.

Exports of items such as liquid crystal flat panel display modules, computer parts, and printed circuits showed steady growth.

The overseas market expansion for Guangxi's green and low-carbon products is particularly strong.

In the first five months, exports of the "new three" products—new energy vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products—reached 15.58 billion yuan, surging by 80.3%.

This growth rate is 34.7 percentage points higher than the national average for similar commodity exports during the same period.

Regarding imports, Guangxi is accelerating the development of its artificial intelligence industry, leading to a significant climb in imports of related products.

From January to May, Guangxi's imports of AI-related items included integrated circuits worth 3.71 billion yuan, computers worth 2.21 billion yuan, wires and cables worth 870 million yuan, and printed circuits worth 230 million yuan.

These imports saw respective growth rates of 21.8%, 580%, 11.4%, and 750%.
