On March 26, a female employee in Changsha, Hunan province reported that she was assaulted while attempting to stop a shoplifter at a MINISO Group Holding Limited store on February 17. The employee stated she was verbally abused and slapped by the suspect, and admitted to fighting back during the altercation. On the same day, the store manager provided a 66 yuan red envelope as consolation and indicated that an application would be made for a "distress award" from the company. However, on March 26, the manager informed the employee that the company had rejected the application, citing that the employee had retaliated and the customer also sustained injuries, which did not meet the criteria for the distress award. In April 2024, MINISO Group Holding Limited internally issued a notice regarding the establishment of a distress award for frontline staff, stating that employees subjected to physical assault by customers would be eligible for a 500 yuan compensation. The employee involved has since resigned from her position. On March 26, the MINISO store in question stated that compensation matters had been discussed face-to-face with the employee and suggested further inquiries be directed to her.
