U.S. Lithium Stocks Surge as DOE Grants $500M to Boost Domestic Battery Supply Chain

On Friday, lithium mining stocks experienced a broad rally, with Lithium Argentina (LAR.US) jumping more than 11% to lead the sector's gains.

Sigma Lithium (SGML.US) climbed nearly 9%, while Albemarle (ALB.US) advanced 6%. Lithium Americas (LAC.US) rose over 5%, and both Standard Lithium (SLI.US) and SQM (SQM.US) gained more than 4% during the session.

Where the momentum originates: On August 20, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced a $500 million grant package allocated to seven domestic critical mineral and battery supply chain projects. These initiatives span four key areas—lithium extraction, cobalt refining, battery recycling, and advanced battery materials—with the goal of building a self-sufficient domestic battery supply chain and reducing reliance on foreign mineral imports.
