MBX Biosciences' stock surged 5.92% during intraday trading on Monday, following the release of encouraging clinical trial updates for its obesity drug pipeline and subsequent positive analyst actions.

The company announced preliminary blinded Phase 1 data for its GLP-1/GIP co-agonist prodrug, MBX 4291, demonstrating a mean weight loss of 7% at eight weeks in the first multiple ascending dose cohort. The data indicated the drug was generally well-tolerated, with a pharmacokinetic profile supporting the potential for once-monthly dosing, a key differentiator in the competitive obesity treatment market. MBX Biosciences also nominated MBX 5765, a novel GLP-1/GIP/glucagon/DACRA agonist designed for once-monthly dosing, as its next development candidate.

Analysts reacted positively to the news. Truist Securities raised its price target on MBX Biosciences to $70 from $50, maintaining a Buy rating. Separately, Guggenheim reiterated a Buy rating with an $88 price target. The company also recently reported a quarterly earnings beat, with an adjusted loss per share of $0.51, better than the consensus estimate for a loss of $0.58.
