Technical expert Sun Tianxiang in the field of large language models has joined Baidu as the head of its Foundational Model Research Department.

It is reported that Sun Tianxiang has also concurrently become a member of Baidu's Model Committee. Previously, Baidu established separate departments for foundational model research and applied model research, with the latter being led by Jia Lei.

In recent times, Baidu has been continuously iterating its AI organizational structure and talent pipeline: it has set up the Model Committee, introduced young technical talent in multiple batches, and is gradually forming a systematic talent layout focused on foundational models.

This approach of using organizational change to drive talent development and using product breakthroughs to validate the organization is becoming a clear main thread in Baidu's AI talent strategy.

Recently, the end-to-end OCR model Unlimited OCR, which was open-sourced by Baidu, achieved top positions on four major trend lists: GitHub Daily Trending, Python, HuggingFace's global model overall trend list, and its multimodal model trend list, surpassing 10,000 GitHub Stars within five days of its release.
