A pair of slope collapses struck Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, on August 23, leaving four individuals unaccounted for. In response, the Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geohazard emergency response for Yunnan at 2:00 PM that same day and dispatched a working group to the site to assist with rescue operations.
Additionally, the ministry directed the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources to immediately deploy an expert team to the affected area. The team's primary tasks include providing technical support for search and rescue efforts and ensuring safety during the emergency response. Local authorities have also been urged to conduct thorough inspections, strengthen monitoring and early warning systems, and prepare for similar geological hazards in the future.
To further bolster these efforts, the China Geological Survey and the Ministry's Geohazard Technical Guidance Center have been called upon to enhance expert coordination, organizational support, and consultative assessments. Their involvement aims to ensure comprehensive technical backing for the ongoing disaster response and prevention measures.
