South Korean police have launched a formal investigation into a recent hacking attack targeting financial institutions and have established a 28-member special investigation team to handle the case.

The National Investigation Headquarters of the Korean National Police Agency stated on the 6th that after confirming the objective facts, it officially filed the case on suspicion of violating the Information and Communications Network Act.

Given the severity of the incident, police have designated the Cyber Terror Investigation Team of the National Police Agency as the special investigation unit for the case and are considering whether to report the matter to the Serious Crimes Investigation Department.

Recently, seven financial companies in South Korea, including Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Hana Bank, suffered hacking attacks, with signs discovered in multiple locations indicating the same attacker used artificial intelligence (AI) to carry out the attacks.
