Two Hillside Collapses in Fengqing, Yunnan Leave Four Missing

According to the WeChat public account of the Ministry of Natural Resources, two hillside collapses occurred on August 23 in Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, resulting in four people being unaccounted for.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geological disaster defense response for Yunnan at 2 PM on August 23 and dispatched a working group to the site to guide rescue and relief operations.

The Ministry has instructed the Department of Natural Resources of Yunnan Province to immediately dispatch an expert working group to the scene to assist local authorities in search and rescue efforts and provide technical support during the emergency response. It also emphasized the need to draw lessons from this incident and enhance geological hazard inspections, monitoring and early warning systems, and preventive measures in similar circumstances.

Additionally, the China Geological Survey and the Technical Guidance Center for Geological Disasters of the Ministry of Natural Resources have been tasked with strengthening expert coordination, organizational support, and consultation and analysis to fully assist in providing technical support for the ongoing operations.
