In recent days, Baoji has experienced persistent high temperatures and sunny, hot weather. Meteorological forecasts indicate that the coming week will continue to be hot with little rain, leading to a rapid decline in soil moisture. The current period is critical for corn emergence, making the situation for drought resistance and seedling protection severe.
To effectively combat the drought and ensure stable autumn grain production, the Fengjiashan Reservoir Irrigation District, acting in accordance with the agricultural season, conducted scientific analysis and implemented precise measures. On July 4th, it promptly opened the sluice gates to release water, fully launching the 2026 summer irrigation campaign. This action aims to nourish thousands of hectares of farmland with ample water, thereby strengthening the water conservancy defenses for grain production.
Prior to the summer irrigation, the irrigation district closely monitored changes in weather, water conditions, and soil moisture. It routinely conducted inspections of seedling conditions and surveys of water demand to scientifically formulate water supply and scheduling plans. Simultaneously, it completed the dredging of main and branch canals, maintenance of gates and aqueducts, and servicing of electromechanical equipment. This work cleared the "waterways" for conveyance and eliminated potential project hazards, ensuring safe and efficient water delivery.
Following the opening of the sluice gates, the irrigation district strictly managed water allocation. It dynamically distributed water and optimized scheduling based on field distribution and the specific water needs of crops to improve water use efficiency. All staff remained on duty 24 hours a day, intensifying canal patrols to promptly address issues like seepage and siltation, ensuring water flows directly to the fields. Furthermore, personnel went deep into villages to promote water use policies and safety knowledge, guiding residents to use water properly and irrigate during off-peak hours, thereby maintaining good water use order.
Moving forward, the irrigation district will continue to closely monitor the development of the drought, steadfastly holding the front line for drought resistance and irrigation security. It will persistently optimize water source scheduling, strengthen engineering maintenance, and enhance service levels.
