Consumers paid about 80 yuan more on average for a domestic economy class ticket this year compared with last year. Average daily trips reached 306 million! During this year's National Day holiday, the average daily cross-regional movement of people nationwide set a new record. At the same time, domestic civil aviation ticket prices also rebounded overall along with the growth in passenger flow. On October 8, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport, from October 1 to 7, 2026, the cumulative cross-regional movement of people across society reached 2.142 billion, averaging about 306 million per day, up 0.6% year on year and hitting a record high for the same period in history. Looking at different modes of transport, railway passenger transport became the segment with the most obvious growth. During the National Day holiday, cumulative railway passenger volume reached 152 million, with average daily year-on-year growth of 12.7%; cumulative road passenger movement reached 1.962 billion, with average daily year-on-year decline of 0.3%; waterway passenger volume reached 10.93 million, with average daily year-on-year growth of 7.1%; and civil aviation passenger volume reached 16.92 million, with average daily year-on-year growth of 0.9%. Converted, railways sent an average of more than 21 million passengers per day, about 2.4 million more per day than in the same period last year. By contrast, roads still carried the vast majority of cross-regional passenger movement, but the scale was basically flat compared with last year. This means that although the overall scale of travel during this year's National Day did not grow substantially, the divergence in passenger flow among different modes of transport became more obvious. Although civil aviation passenger flow grew only slightly, ticket prices rebounded noticeably. During the National Day holiday, civil aviation operated a total of about 120,000 passenger flights, averaging more than 17,100 per day, up 1.4% year on year and up 16.6% compared with the same period in 2019. Although opportunities to snap up low-priced tickets still appeared from time to time throughout the long holiday, overall travel demand growth still pushed ticket prices higher across the board. According to Flight Manager DAST data, the average price of domestic economy class tickets during the 2026 National Day holiday was about 931 yuan (including fuel surcharges), up 9.5% year on year and up 8.0% compared with the same period in 2019. This means that for a domestic economy class ticket, consumers paid about 80 yuan more on average this year than last year. Compared with before the pandemic, the current average domestic ticket price is also about 70 yuan higher. It should be noted that the average ticket price is the average level for the entire holiday and does not mean that every flight or every day saw price increases. In fact, there was still obvious price divergence during this year's National Day holiday: prices were higher during popular periods and on popular routes, while lower prices could still be found for some flights during off-peak travel. During this year's National Day holiday, tourist flows not only continued to concentrate in traditional popular cities, but also further spread to some second- and third-tier cities and distinctive tourism destinations. Flight Manager data shows that during the National Day holiday, flight volume growth was relatively prominent in cities such as Mangshi in Yunnan, Altay in Xinjiang, Bijie in Guizhou, Yueyang in Hunan, and Luoyang in Henan. Among them, average daily flight volume in Bijie and Yueyang rose 357.1% and 210.2% year on year, respectively. Average daily flight volume in places such as Lishui, Qinhuangdao, Zhangjiakou, and Zhaosu all increased by more than 100% year on year; average daily flight volume in Luoyang and Datong rose 48.4% and 53.8% year on year, respectively; average daily flight volume in Mangshi in Yunnan and Altay in Xinjiang rose 54.1% and 26.8% year on year, respectively; and average daily year-on-year growth in flight volume in Dali, Hotan, and Hailar also exceeded 10%. For these cities, even if the absolute increase in flights was not especially large, a relatively high year-on-year growth rate could still be generated because the original base was low. Recovery in the international aviation market also continued. Flight Manager data shows that during the National Day holiday, the recovery rate of international flight volume compared with the same period in 2019 was already close to 95%. In terms of route distribution, international flights were mainly concentrated in East Asia and Southeast Asia, with the two regions accounting for 71.9% combined, while South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia became the most popular destination countries. In terms of the degree of recovery, flight volume on some international routes has already exceeded pre-pandemic levels. Among the top-ranked countries, flight volumes to South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Russia, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, and Laos have already surpassed the same period in 2019. Overall, transportation and travel during this year's National Day holiday showed several relatively obvious characteristics: the total scale of travel remained at a high level, railway passenger flow grew relatively quickly, civil aviation capacity and ticket prices rebounded simultaneously, and at the same time tourism-related aviation passenger flow further dispersed toward distinctive tourism cities and international destinations.
