Aurora has officially launched its maiden voyage from Yichang, Hubei, marking a significant step in sustainable tourism on the Yangtze River.

As one of China's first new energy hybrid inter-provincial cruise ships, Aurora boasts the largest extended-range battery capacity and the highest level of intelligence. With a battery capacity of 2,580 kilowatt-hours, it offers a comprehensive cruising range of 1,500 kilometers. The ship utilizes DC inverter air conditioning and secondary energy utilization technology, achieving a 20% energy savings in its air conditioning system. It is also equipped with vibration-dampening and noise-reducing equipment, along with eco-friendly building materials, to create a low-carbon, quiet sailing environment.

Aurora measures approximately 150 meters in length, 23 meters in width, and has a gross tonnage of about 17,000 tons. It features 260 guest rooms and can carry a maximum of 650 passengers. As one of Hubei's first 150-meter-class large inter-provincial cruise ships, Aurora breaks from the traditional transit model of "viewing on board and leaving upon arrival." Instead, it introduces ocean cruise resort concepts to the Yangtze River, positioning the ship itself as the core holiday destination. This approach is expected to boost related consumption in Yichang, including hotel accommodations, specialty dining, and transportation connections.

The maiden voyage of Aurora marks a new phase for the Three Gorges Tourism Group, with its high-end inter-provincial cruise operations now entering a "dual flagship" era. The first flagship, Lanyue, has been in stable operation since April, completing 32 voyages and welcoming over 16,000 passengers, with an average bed occupancy rate of 95%. This performance places it among the top domestic cruise ships on the Yangtze River’s Three Gorges route.

Leveraging tourism resources such as the Three Gorges Dam, Gezhouba Dam, and Xiling Gorge, Yichang has developed leisure sightseeing cruise products like "Two Dams, One Gorge" and "Yangtze River Night Cruise." The city has also been a pioneer in deploying new energy tourist vessels, including "Yangtze River Three Gorges 1" and Lanyue, to promote green and high-quality development along the river.

Yichang is actively developing its cruise economy, aiming to make the industry a "golden engine" for the region's waterway. The Three Gorges Tourism Group is enriching the cruise experience by integrating five key elements: dining, shopping, entertainment, performances, and accommodation. This strategy is driving a transformation from single-day sightseeing to multi-province vacations, and from single-ship operations to a land-water symbiotic model.

Data for the first half of the year shows that the "Two Dams, One Gorge" route saw a 10.35% increase in tourist numbers compared to the same period last year, solidifying its position as a leading domestic water tourism route. Looking ahead, Aurora and its sister ship Lanyue will work together to transform Yichang's cruise economy from traditional landscape sightseeing to high-quality, leisure-oriented resort tourism. This will drive the development of national industrial clusters in high-end inland shipbuilding, green shipping services, and riverside leisure tourism, positioning Yichang not just as a transit point for Yangtze cruises, but as a sought-after holiday destination, injecting strong momentum into the development of the Yangtze River as an international golden tourism belt.
