United Microelectronics Corporation's stock soared 5.12% during the night session on Tuesday, reflecting strong investor sentiment toward the semiconductor foundry.

The rally was driven by multiple positive catalysts. The company recently reported robust first-quarter financial results, with net profit surging 108% year-over-year, significantly exceeding market expectations. Management highlighted positive pricing momentum, with average selling prices rising 8% in Q1 and guided for a further 5%-7% increase in the second quarter.

Additionally, industry-wide optimism contributed to the move following Huawei Technologies' announcement of a technological workaround called the Tau Scaling Law, which allows for more advanced chip design without relying on specialty equipment blocked by U.S. export controls. United Microelectronics also strengthened its competitive position with the launch of its new 14nm eHV FinFET platform, which delivers 40% lower power consumption and 35% chip area savings.
