China Water Affairs Group has released its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, detailing operational, financial and sustainability performance.
Financial Performance • 2026 revenue reached HK$10.34 billion, compared with HK$11.66 billion a year earlier. • Profit attributable to shareholders stood at HK$1.78 billion, down from HK$2.03 billion in 2025.
Operational Scale • Water supply business served over 30 million people across 25 provincial-level regions, operating 171 water plants with a designed daily capacity of 14.64 million m³. • Sewage treatment capacity totalled 1.29 million m³ per day across 25 plants. • Pipeline direct drinking water reached about 12 million residents through 319 districts and counties.
Resource Efficiency and Emissions • Average electricity consumption in water supply operations improved to 236 kWh per 1,000 m³, below the national industry average of 300 kWh. • Leakage ratio fell to 14.01%, outperforming the sector benchmark of 23.22%. • Total greenhouse-gas emissions were 348,248 tCO₂e; net emissions after offsets from pipeline direct drinking water declined to 336,115 tCO₂e. • The Group targets a 24 % reduction in water-supply emission intensity, a 48 % cut in environmental-protection emission intensity and a 58 % cut in direct drinking-water emission intensity by 2030 versus the 2024 base year. • Clean energy accounted for 13 % of total electricity consumption, supported by 88 MW of installed photovoltaic capacity that generated 75,317 MWh during the year.
Green Financing • Outstanding green bonds totalled US$350 million (issued 2021–2022). • Additional issuances included RMB500 million in green panda bonds (2024) and US$150 million in senior blue bonds (2025).
Water and Waste Management • Annual clean-water supply reached 1.55 billion m³. • Wastewater treatment volume totalled 270 million m³, cutting chemical oxygen demand by 92,909 tonnes and suspended solids by 51,094 tonnes. • Hazardous waste generation was 10,118 tonnes; non-hazardous waste amounted to 306,031 tonnes.
Social Metrics • Workforce numbered 9,768; labour-contract signing rate was 100 %. • Average employee training reached 78 hours, with a turnover rate of 4.3 %. • Workplace safety recorded zero fatalities for the third consecutive year.
Climate Commitments • Carbon-peaking targeted for 2030; net-zero emissions pledged by 2050, aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative pathway. • A group-wide Environmental and Social Management System governs full-cycle project impacts, including biodiversity protection, with no encroachment on protected areas reported.
Governance and Recognition • Independent assurance of ESG disclosures was provided by SGS-CSTC, confirming compliance with HKEX ESG Reporting Code. • The company received the “Best Infrastructure and Utility Company” award at the 10th Zhitong Caijing Listed Companies Awards.
China Water states that it will continue to expand green operations, enhance smart-water deployment and pursue its declared climate and resource-efficiency targets while maintaining stable service to communities and stakeholders.
