Fuel Price Adjustment Update: Motorists Could See Steep Price Drop as August 14 Window Approaches

China's 16th round of refined oil product price adjustments for 2026 is set to take effect at 24:00 on August 14, with just five days remaining until the deadline as of today, August 7. The current outlook for a price reduction is clear, with the expected decline accelerating sharply from the start of the pricing cycle, potentially offering significant relief for vehicle owners.

Based on ongoing monitoring, the initial forecast of a 0.09 yuan per liter reduction has now expanded to an estimated drop exceeding 0.3 yuan per liter. However, on August 6, international crude oil prices rebounded strongly, which could pause the widening decline. As of the fifth working day of the current cycle, calculations suggest a reduction of 390 yuan per tonne for gasoline and 375 yuan per tonne for diesel. Converted to retail prices, 92-octane gasoline is expected to decrease by 0.31 yuan per liter, 95-octane gasoline by 0.33 yuan per liter, and 0 diesel fuel by 0.32 yuan per liter.

It is important to note that there are still five statistical days remaining in the pricing cycle, leaving room for changes. If international crude oil prices rebound quickly in the coming days, the current expected decline could narrow. Whether the reduction is finalized and the exact amount of the decrease will ultimately be determined by the official announcement from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
