Yangzijiang Maritime Development Ltd. announced the signing of contracts to build eight Very Large Crude Carriers of about 319,000 DWT each, with deliveries scheduled in 2028, 2029 and 2030. The vessels will be constructed at a Chinese shipyard and financed through a mix of equity co-investment and debt.
The VLCCs will meet Energy Efficiency Design Index Phase 3 standards, feature fuel-optimised hulls, electronically controlled main engines and energy-saving devices, and will be fitted with exhaust gas cleaning systems.
Separately, the company signed agreements to sell four new medium-range tankers of 49,800 DWT each. These vessels are slated for delivery in 2027 and 2028.
Yangzijiang Maritime stated that the sale is expected to contribute positively to its financial performance upon completion. The group currently owns a fleet of over 90 vessels and has newbuilding orders for up to 50 additional vessels.
