The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) reported that a shipping company has confirmed a missile attack on the container vessel Vela Nova early Tuesday, striking it at a location 71 nautical miles off the coast of Pakistan.
The vessel's captain verified that the missile, launched from a helicopter, hit the steering gear compartment at the stern. This impact has rendered the ship incapable of normal maneuvering. The explosion caused a fire, which has since been extinguished.
All crew members have been confirmed safe, and there are no reports of any injuries.
