Sony Group Corporation's stock soared 5.40% during the overnight trading session, fueled by a stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings report and an improved full-year outlook.

The Japanese electronics and entertainment giant posted a first-quarter operating profit of 476.5 billion yen ($2.97 billion), marking a 40% year-over-year surge and significantly surpassing the average analyst estimate of 361 billion yen. Net profit also exceeded expectations, coming in at 342.16 billion yen against a consensus of 265.98 billion yen. In addition to the earnings beat, Sony raised its full-year operating profit guidance to 1.72 trillion yen from a prior 1.60 trillion yen, and increased its annual dividend to 35 yen per share. The company also disclosed a non-binding proposal to acquire camera lens manufacturer Tamron for approximately 200 billion yen, aiming to strengthen its imaging and sensing solutions business.
