In Wanrong County, spring-sown corn is currently in the jointing and booting stage, while summer-sown corn is in the seedling stage. Recent frequent occurrences of severe convective weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and short-duration heavy rainfall, can easily cause leaf damage, stem injury, breakage, and lodging of field plants for crops such as corn and other grain and oil crops, posing a threat to agricultural growth. To effectively mitigate the disaster impacts caused by extreme weather and swiftly carry out post-disaster remediation, the Wanrong County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau has proposed the following management technical measures.
Immediate Field Clearing, Seedling Straightening, Moisture Reduction, and Soil Loosening
Following severe convective weather, promptly clear damaged residual leaves and diseased plants. For corn with minor lodging, gently straighten the plants and firm soil around the roots. In low-lying waterlogged areas, quickly drain water to reduce moisture, nurture root systems, and minimize root rot and stem decay.
Seize the Optimal Window for Fungicide Application
Wounds on crops like corn and other grain and oil crops are highly susceptible to pathogen infection. It is crucial to seize favorable sunny periods to promptly apply broad-spectrum, high-efficiency fungicides, such as pyraclostrobin or propiconazole-azoxystrobin mixtures, to seal wounds on damaged field areas. This effectively prevents the spread of various corn leaf spot diseases, stalk rot, bacterial diseases, and blocks the occurrence of secondary infections.
Apply Foliar Fertilizers for Rapid Recovery
Comprehensively apply foliar fertilizers like monopotassium phosphate and amino acid-based solutions to accelerate wound healing in damaged areas, repair broken leaves, restore photosynthetic capacity, and ensure normal booting for corn and other grain and oil crops. This effectively reduces the incidence of malformed ears, small ears, and barren stalks.
Timely Topdressing to Strengthen Stalks and Promote Ear Development
Disastrous weather leads to damage of functional leaves, increased nutrient consumption, and insufficient nutrient supply for crops like corn and other grain and oil crops. Based on field growth conditions, timely supplemental application of fast-acting nitrogen fertilizer and booting-stage fertilizer is necessary to replenish field nutrition, strengthen stalks for booting, rapidly promote the transformation of weak plants to robust ones, and compensate for growth losses caused by the disaster.
Implement Integrated Spraying for Multiple Promotions
Concentrate efforts on integrated operations for "one spray, multiple promotions," combining pest and disease control, foliar nutrient supplementation, and stress resistance and quality improvement.
