JPMorgan Chase has hired former Goldman Sachs Group and Sycamore Partners executive Rob Sweeney as one of its global investment banking chairmen, according to an internal memo.

Under the memo, Sweeney will advise large corporate clients with a focus on the consumer and retail sectors, help senior bankers maintain key client relationships, and take part in leading the firm's security and resilience initiatives.

The memo was issued by Filippo Gori and John Simmons, JPMorgan's co-heads of global banking.

Sweeney's career spans investment banking and private equity. He spent 22 years at Goldman Sachs, where he served as global head of consumer and retail investment banking before his departure.

In April 2019, he joined Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm focused on the consumer and retail sectors, as its newly created president.

During his time at Goldman Sachs, his clients included Under Armour, Lululemon, Target, Best Buy, Dollar General, Campbell's, General Mills, J.Crew, and Yum! Brands.

According to people familiar with the matter, JPMorgan has hired more than 1,000 bankers globally this year and has expanded client coverage teams across industries and regions.

The bank's investment banking fees rose 30% year over year in the second quarter, the highest since 2021; co-president Doug Petno said in September that he expects third-quarter investment banking fees to grow by a mid-to-high teens percentage year over year.
